This Commissionerate is involved in the welfare of such Non-Resident Tamils.

This Commissionerate focuses on the welfare of these Non-Resident Tamils, offering support and resources to enhance their livelihoods and ensure their well-being in foreign lands.
This Commissionerate co-ordinates with the various Indian Missions abroad in resolving the grievances of the Non-Resident Tamils like :

Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced in a press release issued on 06.10.2021, that a “Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board” will be set up to protect the welfare of Tamils living abroad and in other states of India.
On October 6, 2021, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu declared the creation of the "Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board." This board is designed to look after the well-being of Tamils living in other countries and states of India. It's a step to help them with their needs and challenges.
Also, Section 10 (1) of the Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Act, 2011 provides for the formation of a board for the welfare of Tamils living abroad.
On the basis of this, through the Government Order No. 827, Public (R.H-2) Department, dated 24.12.22, a “Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board” has been set up with 15 Government and Non-Government members.
